Fatehgarh Sahib is universally revered as one of the most poignant, sacred, and inspiring spiritual landscapes in world history. In December 1704, the Mughal governor of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, martyred Guru Gobind Singh Ji's youngest sons—Sahibzada Zorawar Singh (aged 9) and Sahibzada Fateh Singh (aged 7)—by bricking them alive when they refused conversion to Islam, while their grandmother Mata Gujri Ji attained martyrdom in the Cold Tower (Thanda Burj). Diwan Todar Mal purchased the land for their cremation by standing gold coins vertically, making it the most expensive land in human history. In 1710, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur conquered Sirhind and named the citadel Fatehgarh Sahib (Fort of Victory).
