Kapurthala is a celebrated princely district in Punjab's Doaba region, historically lauded as the 'Paris of Punjab' for its French neoclassical palaces, lush gardens, and grand boulevards. Founded by the Ahluwalia Misl under Sultan-ul-Qaum Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, it was transformed into an architectural jewel by the Francophile Maharaja Jagatjit Singh. It houses the Versailles-inspired Jagatjit Palace (now Sainik School), the Moorish Mosque modeled after Morocco's Kairouan, India's premier Rail Coach Factory (RCF), and the sacred town of Sultanpur Lodhi.
